makers cut their outlook for the rest of the year. both texas instruments and altera shaved their financial guidance, thanks to lower demand. during the regular session, t-x-n fell 2.5% to just below $30 per share. the stock fell another 6% after the close. altera shares were down 2.5% before the news, and dropped another 4.5% in after-hours trading. there was another deal in the world of cloud computing. "big blue", ibm, will buy demand-tec, which sells software services to retailers that analyzes prices. it is a $440 million deal. ibm dropped a little more than 1%. demand-tec shot up 55%, closing a nickel below the purchase price of $13.20 per share. an f.d.a. panel approval for an anemia drug sent shares of affymax soaring, up 36%. volume jumped 20-fold. it goes to a full regulatory review in march. in commodities, oil dropped below $100, falling 2% to $98 and change per barrel. that's its biggest loss in two weeks. metal prices also fell with traders pointing to anxiety over europe. gold and copper fell more than 1.5% each. with the european central bank not buying bonds

. rain ahead of temperatures in the 50s and 60s. 70s right now in southern texas. north side 20s and 30s with snow. snow expected over new mexico, northern sections a little bit southwest. kansas could have blizzard conditions, as much as a foot in extreme south kansas. that system is heading out to the west. it'll bring us clouds and rain here on wednesday. as the front gets closer. that low pressure passes to our west. as long as that storm track passes to the west we stay in the mild air. maybe enough cool air behind it on wednesday. maybe a little wet snow mixture. yet another system on tap for thursday night and friday morning. that will be just rain as well. northeast winds of the day, five to 10 knots. the bay temps 46 still. a lot of clouds, 36 by morning. we stay above freezing. tomorrow a lot of clouds maybe a few breaks. maybe a couple of showers in a few isolated spots. rain and mild temperatures here ahead of that front on wednesday. that will be into the mid-60s before it cools down a little bit until the end of the week. right now that's going to stay above freezing all we

night's warnings, semiconductor makers texas instruments and altera were higher. oil prices rebounded some thanks to the european news. crude oil closed up more than 1%, ending just shy of $100 per barrel, but another energy source fell hard. natural gas shed more than 3% even as winter weather begins to bear down on parts of the midwest. but a forecast for a mild winter has sent nat gas prices to a new contract low. supplies are plentiful, and the producers are responding. the number of rigs drilling for natural gas is close to a two- year low. still, analysts do not expect a big drop in u.s.-produced natural gas until the second half of next year. and that's tonight's "market focus." >> susie: bad weather and unfavorable exchange rates are sending toyota's profits in reverse. today the japanese car maker cut its financial forecast in half for the rest of this year. as diane eastabrook reports, the maker of camry and corolla has a game plan to get back on the road to recovery next year. >> reporter: toyota can't seem to get a break these days. it was just getting production back on t

texas instruments and altera as computer chip makers issuing profit warnings this quarter. intel says a drop in hard drive production in thailand will cut revenue this quarter by $1 billion. now intel predicts revenues of $13.7 billion, but as darren gersh reports, many investors are not as bullish as intel. >> reporter: after appearing to dismiss the impact of flooding in thailand on its business, intel today changed its story. and sanford c. bernstein semiconductor analyst stacy rasgon says investors do not like it when that happens so quickly. >> the perception that people had walking out of recent meetings with management-- again, very recently, even within the last couple of weeks- - was different than the outlook they provided today, and so whenever you are providing communication to the street which is at odds with a result you eventually post, that is always a bad thing. people don't like to see that. >> reporter: intel told analysts today the company expects hard drive production from thailand will pick up by the first half of 2012 and with it demand for intel chips should re

of stock listings, after more than 60 years on the big board, texas instruments will soon have a new trading home. the company announced today its moving its stock listing from the n.y.s.e. to the nasdaq beginning in the new year. so, a new exchange, but the same ticker symbol-- t-x-n. still ahead, another day in the hot seat on capitol hill for former m.f. global c.e.o. jon corzine, with more details about missing client money. >> susie: improvement on the jobs front helped stocks move higher. weekly jobless claims fell by 19,000 to their lowest level since may of 2008 with 366,000 workers filing initial claims. that encouraging trend supported stock-- the dow rose 45 points, the nasdaq added just over a point, and the s&p 500 rose nearly four. but despite that positive jobs news, brace yourself for another year of a weak economy and maybe a recession. that's the 2012 forecast from bank of america merrill lynch. here are the highlights: the investment firm expects global economic growth of 3.5%, but here in the u.s., the economy will be weaker, growing less than 2%. and there's a 40

. will the payroll tax holiday be extended? will the congress force the president to approve a canada to texas oil pipeline and will the government shut down? the last answer is not yet. the other two are up in the air. where does all the brinksmanship stand tonight, jeanne? >> well, once again -- gwen: doesn't roll your eyes at me. [laughter] >> one game they are really good at is kick the can down the road. and it appears that's where we are tonight. that an agreement was reached on capitol hill early this evening to extend the payroll tax, unemployment benefits for two months. and so they will be back at it in february. and attached to that is some language that would force the white house to provide an earlier decision on the transcanada keystone pipeline. that's going to cut across the country if it's approved. we've not seen that language. senator conrad early or late this afternoon told bloomberg reporter that that language was not problematic. that where they got stuck was trying to find the cuts to pay for the full extension of the payroll tax. and the unemployment benefits. that leads me
